Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar, an Indian-born British American musician and sitarist is best known for her music. She was also the youngest and first woman to receive the British House of Commons Award. Anoushka shankar is one of India's rising stars in the sitar. She is both the student and daughter of Ravi Shankar. She was born in London in 1982. In her first years she split between London New Delhi. In the age of thirteen she performed her first show in New Delhi. In the following years she moved to Encinitas CA she attended high school and graduated with distinction in the year 1999. Although she is still very young, Anouskha is an accomplished performer and recording career. She often joins her father in performances this she's done for several years. In 1998, she debuted her first self-titled album Anourag. The Grammy-nominated Live at Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. Apart from performing in many of the biggest venues, she also has an extensive stage presence. The career of Anoushka goes far beyond music. She released Bapi, the Heart of My Life, in 2002. It is a biographical work that is a tribute to her dad Ravi Shankar. Also, she appeared in film in 2003. Her role was as a Bharat Nayam dancer on Dance Like a Man. Anoushka's career is still developing and she will continue to achieve great success in the coming years. Anoushka was raised in England, but spent most of her childhood in between London and Delhi. Then she moved to California and enrolled in high school there. She started learning to play the guitar when she was nine years old and was a sitar player for the 75th anniversary of the birth of her father in Delhi four years later. Anoushka performed with her father during his world tour, gained an incredible number of experiences. When she was in her teens, she performed in Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD and even recorded with George Harrison. She was the youngest and sole female to receive the House of Commons Shield awarded by the British Parliament for her artistry and musicianship as a leading musician of the Asian Arts.
